In My Room...

There's a world where I can go and tell my secrets to
In my room, in my room
In this world I lock out all my worries and my fears
In my room, in my room

Do my dreaming and my scheming
Lie awake and pray
Do my crying and my sighing
Laugh at yesterday

Now its dark and Im alone
But I wont be afraid
In my room, in my room
In my room, in my room
In my room, in my room

-The Beach Boys

I thought I would go ahead and give you all a tour of my living space.

After entering the 4-digit code at the front door, you are able to enter Yliopostokatu 18, my apartment building. Three flights up stands our apartment, 301-302.

Our kitchen is very tiny, just small corridor containing a fridge/freezer, small stove/oven, a little counter space, and a two-part sink (however, the faucet only pours successfully over one of the two parts, which I do not at all understand). By the front door we have a small coat cubby area with a few shelves and closet for cleaning supplies.

The bathroom lay at the far end of the corridor, opposite to the coat cubby. It is very small. The shower and toilet parts are not separated in any way other than by a curtain. There is one solid floor. We have to push the water down the drain to get it away from the toilet. There is also no window and no fan (mmm, bacteria!) We have a small medicine cabinet, with Fabio's things on the left side, and mine on the right.

Across from the front door is my room (Fabio's is further down to the right, next to the bathroom). I have a very small bed. My feet come close to hanging over the edge. The "mattress" is a two-inch thick piece of egg-crate foam. This lay on top of a sturdy wooden frame (Comfy!) To the side of my bed is a red night table with four drawers. Jewelry and change in the top, toiletries in the 2nd, electronics in the 3rd, and medicine in the big one on the bottom (thank goodness for the big one on the bottom).

I have a large green armoire-type object next to the door. I have several shelves for clothes as well as a large space for hanging things/storing suitcases and bedding. Next to that is my desk (well, it's really just a long table). I have my books, some photos posted, all my papers, and my computer.

Next to my desk is a wondefully large window. I have a great view of the pine trees and the children's playground that lay below. Being on the third floor, I don't see the children if I lay in bed, just the trees and the sunrise (damn sunrise, let me sleep!) Below my window is a heating unit, which will be turned on, I believe, in October. No need for it yet. There is a small vertical window portion next to the large window, which I can open for fresh air and coolness. It is not filtered, however, so I get lovely bugs as an added bonus.

My dirty laundry lay in a laundry basket in the corner across from my bed. My "mattress" slides whenever I lean against the back of the wall to read, so I have to place my red chair, blocked by my laundry basket, at the foot of the bed in order to keep from sliding off completely. There is a rectangular navy rug which I found here that lay on the floor next to my bed. I have bought a nice table lamp for my night table and the rest of the light is provided by a light which hangs from the ceiling. I have photos of you all above my desk and next to my bed.

I'm still sick. And now my eye is twitching badly. It did this last night, too. I cooked for myself again tonight. I did pasta and asparagus (WARNING: Do not leave to pee while you are cooking pasta. It took 30 mins to clean the pot of the lovely result. Do not worry, the pasta was fine, but the pan had had it!) White asparagus from a jar is actually really good here. A little lemon. Whod'a thunk it?

Anyway, off to do any number of interesting things.

Good night to all!
